Tips on restoring / deodorizing antique mount
Post Body

Picked this guy up at a yard sale for $20. He was extremely dirty and in bad shape. I re-glued the ears because they split, oiled the wood mount, vaccumed the fur and wiped the fur down with rubbing alcohol. Also lightly repainted / touched up the nose and eye area. He looks A LOT better.

HOWEVER, There is a strong sweet, grassy smell to him like hay. I don’t know much about antique taxidermy, but this piece looks pretty old and I suspect it might be stuffed with straw? and the real skull because of the weight. Is there anyway I can minimize the hay / grass odor? Tried some dry shampoo, no luck. Also, how can I check for signs of bugs? Thanks.
