Quitting my apprenticeship
Post Body

I started a tattoo apprenticeship abt 2 months ago and unfortunately, im ready to leave this shop. Ive been an artist for years and have always wanted to tattoo so i finally started and got a spot apprenticing at a shop in an upscale area. My mentor had me do a tattoo on myself as a test the first time we met. This shouldve been my first red flag bc i had said i wasnt comfortable and had never tattooed real skin. Within the 1-2 weeks he started making sexual comments towards me. This made me uncomfortable and i told him that. When other people were in the shop he was more reserved w those comments so i just tried my best not to be alone w him. I was already nervous going into this industry bc ive had several issues w male artists commenting on my body or flirting and making me uncomfortable. Then my mentor touched my breast while a client was in the bathroom. I immediately told him to never touch me like that again and he did not seem to take me seriously. Before this point i was coming in 3-5 days a week, he was supposed to be getting my chair in that week. It has now been 2 weeks and i still have no chair (which hes admitted is due to him nog having it picked up) and have only been called to the shop maybe 3 times. Another issue: When we initially discussed the internship on the phone, he said he would not charge me but wanted me to be taking clients very quickly and would take 50% of each tattoo. By my 2nd week, he randomly decided he would be charging me $50 a week. Thats $200 a month and 50% of any tattoo i do, yet i cant do any bc he still hasnt brought my chair. There was another apprentice when i started who also quit and left several things. I had said the day she quit if she doesnt want her storage cart ill pay for it. He then gave it to someone else in the shop for free. Im already a professional piercer, which i was also planning to do at this shop. My mentor stated he was a piercer, however i watched him do every piercing he ever did without gloves or proper tools. Some of its a big deal some of its not, but the things that are big are huge and i dont feel im being taught anything. Ive been an artist for years now and other shops are interested, ive already decided on the shop im moving to. Im just curious how i should go abt quitting. Im aware everyone knows somebody in the tattoo world and dont wanna seem rude or anything but i feel super disrespected. So how can i go abt this without getting out of pocket, or should i even care?
