Yesterday was my last day at the red circle, officially promoting myself to guest because I found a better opportunity and I just wanted to share my experience as it really wasn’t terrible! Maybe I just got lucky with a really good store?
I was hired back in November as a seasonal guest advocate. I was in a position where I really needed a job and applied at Target on a whim (I love shopping there, why not?). I applied on a Friday, did the video interviews by Sunday, got a call on Monday and was in orientation by Wednesday. Right when I started working I did need a few days off due to a prior commitment and they were completely understanding and worked around it.
The next few months were crazy because it was the holidays and I was learning the desk and drive ups and SCO. About mid December I talked with my leaders because I get the drive ups were really difficult for me (I’m a big lady and 3 minutes was a struggle for me). Again my leadership team worked with me, understood, and didn’t schedule me on drive ups anymore.
January hour cuts rolled through, I was told they wanted to keep me but as on demand, but they would still schedule me. I accepted. Got an average of 20 hours and there was always an opportunity to pick up more shifts.
When I got sick (happened a few times, it was like a cold /flu, probably from gUeStS) I was told “hey it’s okay just feel better” never given any guilt for calling out or having to leave early. I’ve worked in a lot of places where calling out or being sick comes with a guilt trip and attitude.
If I ever had a question, comment, concern, someone on my team was there.
Of course I had my fair share of difficult guests and scammers but I tried not to let them ruin my day and there was always a shoulder to lean on if I needed to vent.
On my last day (yesterday) I was told if I ever wanted to come back, they would re-hire me and put me on the schedule asap. And that I should not be a stranger because “once Target family, always target family”. That really got me. It was just such a nice sentiment.
Tl;dr thanks for being there when I needed you target, I’m glad I had a great store.
