The first time I tried teletherapy we both had the camera's on and I really couldn't stand seeing myself and I felt like I had to act a certain way and make sure I was in frame every single time. Second time I tried it and we had both cameras off at my request and it was so much better.
I got to lay down on my bed and look up at the ceiling and just speak my mind. I felt like I didn't have to worry about my T's eye and body movement. I just had to listen to their voice and what they were saying. I felt like I could pay attention more to what they were saying than when I am in the actual therapy room with them face to face. I've never felt more relaxed to discuss things and open up than doing teletherapy with the camera off. I think my T was also able to pay more attention to what I was talking to them about and not have to "read" me as much as I was "reading" them.
I don't know if others in this sub have tried doing teletherapy with their camera's off but I really recommend it. I like it so much that I'm thinking on sticking to therapy this way even if I have the ability to go in person because it is far less stressful than doing face to face therapy.
