I saw my old therapist 2018-2023 every week. She still knows me better than anyone on the planet. Last August I had a mixed episode (I have bipolar disorder) that really knocked me on my ass to the point where I had to take a few weeks leave from work.
A few weeks into this, she said sheโd be out for the next four weeks. Unfortunate timing as I was in crisis. I saw another therapist in the interim, but I felt really abandoned.
It surprised me and I had a hard time taking about it. I had grown increasingly dissatisfied by therapy. A month later I terminated. I think about her and going back (itโs been 8 months) often
Curious about other experiences with ruptures that lead to termination, especially in long term therapy relationships.
