Transference focused psychotherapy?

In a strange turn of events, I ended up in this type of therapy. It wasn't anything I was seeking - I connected with a therapist who offers this type of therapy and he insisted I needed it either with him or someone he referred me to. I go twice a week for 45mins. It's very open ended. My therapist starts most sessions asking, "what's on your mind?" and we talk. He's very serious and detached but his insight is generally good. He's not the coddling type and he has said my issues will eat up a therapist that's too nice (damn, called out).

Does anyone else do this type of therapy? Has it been helpful? It feels kind of directionless at this point but I haven't been going long and he has already helped me in a few ways. He immediately identified that I likely have ADHD and should be on mood stabilizers or antidepressants and then referred me to a psychiatrist who is now treating me for those clinical signs. So that's been helpful.

I guess I'm hoping for some success stories or encouragement? It doesn't seem like this is a popular treatment that's offered so I'm having a hard time finding information about it or experiences from people who are involved in TFP.
