How to start playing Taliyah (For new players & players struggling with learning the kit)
Post Body

Hello all, I've been playing Taliyah since she was released. I have had on average a 70% win rate on the champion and I always play her to climb. Currently I'm 11/2 81% WR.

I play her mainly mid but I do play her in the jungle when I get my secondary roll. But lets get to the tips and tricks.

I'll start with a general tip, her build:

Runes: Domination & Precision:

Dark Harvest (or Electrocute if you are getting use to her)>Cheap Shot> Eyeball Collection > Any 4 (prefer RH)

Presence of Mind > Coup de Grace

Atk Speed, AP, Armor/MR

Harvest allows Taliyah to scale into the late game, she isn't very strong in the late game due to her short range and people getting more defensive as time goes on. Cheap Shot just adds true damage to your early game burst, which is needed. Eyeball Collection because you are all about snowballing, you will stack this fast and continue to out scale the other mid lane champions or jungle champion. All options are good, ultimate hunter is probably the worst but having more map presence is never a bad thing.

Items:

The most consistent way to hit your w>e combo, which does the most damage in your kit and how you will one shot people is CC. So how do we introduce CC into Taliyah's kit?

Everfrost>Pen Boots>high AP>hourglass or utility AP

High AP items: Horizon Focus, Shadowflame, Deathcap

Utility AP items: Rylai's, Cosmic Drive, Morello's, Banshee

Why Everfrost? - the range is actually quite long on the center root, if you land the root you automatically get the w>e combo that will always one shot squishy characters.

Getting T2 Boots fast is very important for her play style. We will talk about this in the next section.

Taliyah has very good scaling, on top of having extremely high base damage. The reason for this is her ultimate does not do damage which means they put more power into the rest of her kit. Getting a big chunk of AP will always benefit you and this should always be your second item after boots. Even behind, you will still one shot squishy players with two items.

Utility wins games, as stated before, Taliyah does not scale very well into the late game (unless you are basically full build at 20 minutes) so building utility for your team or survivability because you are being focused should be your main objective. Rylai's offering a slow is absolutely amazing when it comes to hitting your combo outside of Everfrost. Once Rylai's is completed, you can even sell your mythic and build a stronger burst mythic if you are finding Rylai's is helping you tremendously to hit the w>e combo.

Ability Priority:

Q - E - W - Q - Q - R - Q - E - Q - E - R - E - E - W - W - R - W - W

Against Yasuo:

Q - E - W - E - E - R - E - Q - E - Q - R - Q - Q - W - W - R - W - W

Yasuo will kill himself if he dashes through the e, if you fight him and he keeps doing it, max it. You can one shot him once you have level 3 E and he has no passive if he dashes through it.

Laning:

I always start in one of the side two bushes in mid, just before the front melee minions get to the last tower I push forward and try and hit a full 5 rock q. This will do roughly 120-150 damage plus auto attacks if they are in range and harvest if you get off 3 autos.

If the above happened: Conserve you mana, just last hit with auto attacks, harass when you are using q for last hitting and try and keep the wave near your tower till level 3. Follow the same steps for the first 3 levels. Don't get greedy unless you are 100% sure you can kill them.

Once level 3, you are trying to land you w>e>q combo with auto attacks. **Auto attack weaving is VERY important*\* I always ping my level than my jungler when I do hit level 3 if they have any hard cc, its normally a kill or a flash. Push and reset.

First back depending on your gold and if you got a kill. If you are snowballing you want boots and dark seal. If not, priorities getting everfrost as fast as possible and boots.

From here we act as a second jungler, go mid, clear the wave with auto attacks and q (q cost 1 mana on warped ground, try and hit the enemy one per full q to gain mana), then follow your jungler.

If you jungle is not ganking, gank yourself, if there is no gankable lanes, play safe, allow the mid laner to feel safe with the amount of minnions then w>e combo.

Overview of laning:

You are a roaming mage, you are one of the fastest roamers in the game and only few champions can outpace or out roam you. Use this to your advantage in every game, if you are NOT roaming START or STOP playing Taliyah mid.

Junglers are not always the most consistent but you can benefit a lot from tracking the enemy jungler and invading his jungle when their are no lanes to gank. You can also counter gank the jungler every time with your R or just speed alone when you are tracking their movements.

Your R is strictly a ganking tool, you want to use it on champions that can't vault over walls, bot lane is usually the best place to use your first wall for their are two kills to be had instead of one compared to top lane. Ping once saying you are on your way, ping your ult, and spam ping when you activate r and are coming in.

Your w>e combo is deadly, hard cc champions on your team are your best friend, you and a hard cc diver can basically 2v5 an entire game until 25 minutes.

You q has a very low cool down when maxed, it does a lot of damage and the last three rocks fire off twice as fast as the first two. This surprises a lot of people meaning if you are planning to flash onto someone, use q, two rocks, flash on the second rock is thrown and you will most likely hit the last 3 rocks to finish people off.

I can't go into every detail of the champion or all the tips but overall just remember; hard CC = Best friend. Roam, roam, roam and roam again.

I can always make a tips & tricks post but it will be tailored to more experienced players. Please comment below and I will answer any questions I can. Would love your feedback once you have tried the Everfrost build!
