So I’m not a server but at my place of work I’m a HRB. Host Run Buss. But since we have a buzzer and a host I mainly run occasionally host when the other host is busy.
So today I was running as usual but takeout got really busy so one of my mangers tells me to help the cashier out.
So I do, I help her get a few orders together. She would tell me which ones to get together, the receipt had the customer names so i can just call out to them.
I also take a few phone orders down on paper and give them to her ,but she is mainly the one on the register . so at this point there are multiple people in line and the next person in line so happens to be a regular, so I call him over and write his order down on a sheet of paper and give it to her and say this SO AND SO order, she says okay and puts it into the register.
After I gave it to her take-out died down, so I ask my manger if I can go back to running they say yes. So at this point I’m no longer taking any orders on the phone or doing anything that has to do with cash. So shift goes on and I run food as usual until the end of my shift so i do my side work and go home.
But I get a call on the phone from my manger asking me if i took the payment for SO AND SO order and I say no because all I did was write it down on the paper and give it to the cashier. she says okay I’ll call you back, I get a call back about 5 mins later and she is telling me since the payment wasn’t taken you either need to pay for 1/2 of the bill or get a write up. So I took the write up but I’m going to fight it.
So do you think that I should be responsible for paying half and I’m over reacting or am I right?
Here is why I don’t think I should be written up 1. I didn’t put his order into the register. 2. I didn’t hand him the food when it was ready because I went back to running.
