As football fans know, there was a University of Michigan game yesterday. Now, my (upscale) restaurant is halfway between Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor, but we don't really fall in the epicenter of either areas. We also close at 10 every night.
I had a walk-in ten top all in U of M garb come in and stand at the host stand until I go up there and asked them how I could help.
Gentleman: "Table for ten, please."
Me: "Oh I'm sorry, were actually closed."
"But everyone's coming home from the game! How come you're not open?!"
"Well, sir, we close at 10 every night, and we're not downtown Ann Arbor."
"But you're missing the post-game rush!!"
??? Why would we stay open if we're not a sports bar, or any kind of bar? I work in an upscale restaurant. We don't even want a bunch of drunk and rowdy football fans coming in.
If we catered to every event happening in Ann Arbor, none of which affect us besides U of M games, we would literally never close.
