Quick story from the other night. Had a couple who purchased a bottle of Prosecco. Because of the rules of where I work, the bottle has to remain at the bar, so they have to come back up if they want more. I under-poured a little on the first round, so I had to fill the glasses really full when they came back. So when they decided to order a second bottle, I poured a little heavier on the first round to ensure that didn’t happen again. A few minutes after pouring out the rest of the second bottle, the guy comes back up with both glasses in his hand and gets my attention.
“Doesn’t this look a little strange to you?”
I had no idea what he was talking about and said so.
“These glasses aren’t very full.”
One of the other bartenders had actually poured the second round because I was away from the bar, so I checked the fridge to make sure that there wasn’t any left in their bottle. Bottle was definitely gone. Then he said the strangest thing.
“I know a lot about alcohol! I sell Champagne.”
I tried to explain to him that I had poured a little heavier on the first round so the glasses wouldn’t be so full on the second round, and assured him that they got the whole bottle, but it was obvious he didn’t believe me. He eventually stormed off.
They did not come back for a third bottle.
