Post Body

About a week ago I went to a generic nation wide chain with my best friend ( I am male and she is female, Its important later on). We had both just gotten paid and decided to go out and have fun. We were seated quickly in a empty area. the server is nice at first and takes our drink order. next to us a party of probably 5 or 6 in suits is seated next to us. server takes their drink orders. the first pet peeve of the night is that they were delivered their drinks first. me and my friend just ordered sodas as we are both high school students and can't drink. but this table got all of their drinks, some echoic before we got ours, even though we ordered first. she then proceeds to comes back with our drink and drops them, and then promptly with out saying anything goest to the big table next to us and takes their order first. which just angered me further. we were clearly ready to order. She then looses the friendly demeanor she had with the other table and took our order very quickly, like we were bothering her. we ordered a appetizer and our meals. just the whole time she kept acting as if we were a inconvenience to her. She dropped our food with out saying a word to us at all. i then ask for ketchup and a drink refill and she sighs and says shell be right back. and yet again drops it off with out a word. overtime she would go to the table next to us she would be very friendly and polite, but with us she kept acting like we were a waste of her time. as a high school student i understand that they ant the best tippers, but my friend is a server and i was raised that you tip 20%. if you can't afford that you don't go out. unless of course the service was bad in which case (its very rare) we tip less. i just found it so rude that she would act this way based on appearance. its unprofessional. when she dropped the check we stopped her and asked for separate checks and she gave me the coldest glare. we assumed it was because she though we were dating and i was being cheep( a lot of people assume me and her date but I am gay and we both have boyfriends) we paid, me with my debit card, and her with cash. we talked about it and decided to not leave anything. i feel somewhat bad about stiffing. but i couldn't justify giving her money for treating us like we are wasting her time. I know that this is how you guys live, but was i in the right to not leave anything? it just angers me when people assume i am cheep or not gonna tip because i am young.
