New servers at the window
Post Body

On weeknights, we don't have any food runners/the MOD will usually do expo if the window starts getting backed up. However, in addition to not having an expo, we also don't have an upstairs host--this leads to the manager seating people.

When this is the case, the expo window gets really ugly, really damn fast. If you run something, you're supposed to mark off whatever items you've ran so the next person knows what's gone out. Seems simple, right? Nah.

I was running part of an order, mark off the first few items and drop them at the table. I come back, and a server that's been there for about three weeks is at the window, just arbitrarily pulling items and comparing them to the other tickets to run (two separate tickets, for both of her tables conveniently).

Me:Hey, we're not done with this first ticket, can you finish that one before you jump to the next one?

Her:I didn't know what had gone out.

You know what's gone out? The first two items that have a line through them. Her next excuse was "Oh, I thought it was done because that line kinda went through the last item." If it was done, the ticket would have been stabbed. It's not that hard to double check the ticket and see if you see any of those items in the window before you move to the next ticket, but whatever.

Naturally, she does this again, and then the kitchen supervisor on duty starts sniping at her and she gets an attitude with him. Now, this particular supervisor is really chill, great guy. His only pet peeve is when people don't finish a ticket before they run a new one, or don't go in order on a ticket. So, we're just kinda looking at each other like 'wat' because at this point I don't even know what's going on in the expo window.

I gave the manager a heads up to just talk with her about it because I know she doesn't normally work weeknights, and on weekends the expo person handles everything so they're just given a plate to ran and sent off with the food...but jesus. On days like these, I realize I really gotta get out of the kitchen.
