Ended up working day shift as a server yesterday, which would be all fine and dandy, if not for management not having a clue what they're doing when it comes to breaks/cutting people. The noon starter got cut first because they decided they wanted to close that portion of the restaurant--but rather than moving him to another section and letting someone who started before him leave, he got to go after three hours on the floor. No big deal, more money for us that stay on.

In any case, I got an eight top around 3:30, which kind of had me giving my manager the side eye. Party with four kids, all under the age of seven? No way in hell are they getting out of here before 5, but as long as I'm out by 5:30, I won't violate (Go over six hours without a break), and it'll be fine. They're going ok, and then 4:15, I see my manager setting up another eight top. I ask about it, and he's like 'Oh, you'll be out of here on time, you've still got a little over an hour.' Ok, we'll see. Another party with a bunch of kids who need mom and dad to order for them, definitely not getting out of here on time.

Get their orders in, and I'm bouncing between the first and second eight top, getting refills, extra napkins, empty ramekins for the kid to put A-1 sauce in to dip his cheesy bread in, etc. Everything's going great, but by the time the second eight top is starting to ask for boxes and such, it's 5:15, and I'm about fifteen minutes from absolutely needing to be off the clock. I walk by my manager as I'm getting the table's souvenir glasses, and he points at the clock and says "You need to be off the floor in fifteen minutes!"

Me, staring: Yeah, I told you that it was gonna be cutting it close if you sat me an eight top, but you did it anyway.

Manager just kinda stared back and then sent me off to drop the check at the table. Ended up making it off the clock at 5:28, after getting shit from the same manager for attempting to do some sort of restocking so the section lead would sign off on my check-out slip, and then from the section lead for not restocking.
