Okay, I'm a host, busser, dishwasher (not sure if it's a step up or down) at a popular family restaurant with a black and red color scheme. Anyway, I worked 10.5 hrs straight yesterday (Thanksgiving) and I have three short stories to tell y'all. I'll do it in order from worst to best. So, here we go.
The Walk-Out
At the title says, one of the servers last night had a walk out. This table ordered roughly $100 worth of food, including steaks, drinks, and even dessert. Once the bar got busy, they ditched. Luckily the new GM took care of it, so the bartender didn't have to. We now have a new Good Guy GM.
Ya' Nasty
So, everyone knows the three most annoying things about certain party tables: no call ahead, white trash, and smells like shit. Well, we got all 3 in one table. They walk in around 1:30 and want a party table for 8. Okay, no big deal. We're slow. The first person to walk in smells okay. The other seven.. must have rolled in dog shit on the way in. The girls were burping more than the guys, everyone ordered ribs, and they left trash everywhere. After they left, leaving the server with a $7 tip on a $100 tab, the server waited until they all left and said "Happy Thanksgiving ya' nasty's". We then swept, wiped the table down, and I spent 15 minutes wiping the chairs down.
Free Food!!! A good story
Okay, time for some feel good story. Since we were open on thanksgiving, management brought in a turkey. Now, I'm not talking a simple store made little turkey, I mean a large turkey. Everyone brought food, ranging from mini weenies to tamales to Apple pie (home made by me). All the servers, the host (me), management, and the kitchen staff all picked at the food all shift. It was nice.
Bonus story: Epic Drinking Guy
Okay, for once, a good story about a guy drinking at the bar. He came in around 8 an hour before we closed, and started drinking. Around 8:45, he tells us he's calling his ride since he's had a few drinks. Now, his ride is apparently Black Friday Eve shopping and can't get him right away. Around 9:15, everyone's gone but him. GG GM allows him to wait for his ride and get another drink due to us knowing he had a ride on the way. We all talked, watched What Would You Do? (which had been on all day, some marathon thing) and just had a great time. While he didn't tip much, he was fine with the bartender cleaning while he was there. It wasn't until about 10:30, an hour and a half after closing, that his ride showed up. He promised to come back, we saw him get in the passenger side, and they left. I think we have a new regular.
TL;DR: Just read it.
