Hey guys. This happened tonight. What I am about to tell you is 100% true. Well... 99% due to lying about the names.

Anyway, on to today's story. It's a Thursday night, the South Carolina Gamecocks are playing their first game of the season, so naturally, I hate today. (CLEMSON REPRESENT!) Anyway, it's a slow day. Servers are getting tables within 10 minutes of their last one leaving, bartender (key person in this story, lets call him Rob) is cranking out drinks, and the manager (we'll call her Alice) is keeping everyone happy. I'm at my normal post, standing at the door, just doing my hosting shit, seating people, taking to go orders, etc.

About 2 hours into my shift, we get Mr.D&D, for Dine and Dash. Middle aged white guy, short hair, about 5'9"-5'11", medium build... Oops, criminal justice student coming out, anyway, he orders a simple large beer, no big deal. He's chatting with Rob and drinking his one drink. Here's how the situation started.

Me: Hey Rob. Your girlfriend needs help with the party she just got. (10 top)

Rob: No problem. Sir, I'll be right back.

D&D: no problem man.

Rob steps away for all of 3 minutes. D&D comes up to me, cue second conversation.

D&D: Hey man, I need to go grab my phone charger out of my car. I'll be right back.

Me: No problem sir.

D&D leaves, and I go seat a table. Now, most of you are saying "Jeff, why did you let him walk out?" Well, I've been asking myself that since then. Anyway, I get back an D&D is still gone. Cue another servers husband walking in.

Me: Hey man, have you seen D&D? He's (insert description).

SH: Yeah, he told my friend he was going to look for his wife, then he took off towards Fast Food Joint.

Now, Rob's pissed. This guy got a $5.00 drink, and then left. Rob wasn't going to have this.

Rob: Hey Alice, this guy just left without paying. Apparently he's going towards Fast Food place. I'm going to go find him.

Alice: Rob, you can't go chasing people.

Rob: He claimed to be ex-military. This isn't going to fly with me.

Rob is former Army, discharged due to a sniper round to the chest, easily pissed, basic military guy.

So, Alice let him go, and he took off. Fast forward 20 minutes, Rob returns. No sign of the guy, nothing. Rob is pissed.

Edit 1: just talked to the bartender. He's suspended for 3 days with no pay. He did that on the clock and left the bar unattended.

Edit 2: Guy came in today, tried the same stunt on other bartender, manager made him pay for the drink he "stole".
