I work in a super busy, family owned restaurant with 8 table sections. Last night I had a shift from hell. For one, our hostesses are terrible about rotation and seating. I literally got sat constantly and it was a very busy night. I had a four top of two couples come in and I honestly did not get a chance to check up on them after they got their food. I go to the table after being rudely waived down and the first thing one of the lady's says is, "You haven't checked on us at all!" I immediately apologized and told them I just got really busy. I even asked if they wanted a manager in which she replied they just wanted their checks. One of the dudes decides to chime in and say, "Quit making excuses." Then told me there wasn't any issues with the food or anything, but continued on saying, "You know what, we've had you before and it was the same issue. You need to find another job!"
Let me preface a bit, I'm a bit on the spectrum and this caught me super off guard. I immediately started crying and told the guy I lost my career due to outsourcing and walked off. Apparently these guys are regulars and come in every Monday, the bartender said they've said similar stuff to him before. I get them cashed out and when I went to drop off their change I was still reeling and shaking from crying. I didn't even look at any of them once and kinda threw the change on the table and walked away. Boy, they were mad. I immediately walked up to my manager and told him he's going to need to talk to that table. I guess they told him they don't want me waiting on them until I'm "properly trained". I told my manager that's fine because I'm refusing to serve them. He wasn't mad, probably knows their assholes since they come in a lot. I know I shouldn't have threw the change, and I've never done that ever.
Did I feel bad, though? Not really. Little do they know I'm actually part of the family that owns the place and if I wanted, I could get them banned for abusing staff. I told my coworkers if they come in again verbally abusing staff to let me know. I couldn't believe that dude had the balls to say that to me. Wtf is wrong with people?
They should be banned, simple as. Losing a small group < improving the atmosphere for everyone else, staff and clients.
