Ten months of this, I couldn't go another two months to make it a year.
It sucks that this was supposed to be a flexible part-time job that gradually became more and more demanding over time. Once the co-owner who hired me jumped ship, it went downhill fast. When I could be out of the place by 9 pm most nights, I would have to be the closing server every shift and I would have to let the other server go early because she was my Manager's favorite and kissed his ass every waking moment she was there. So that meant I would have to take the late stragglers and clean up after them, PLUS sweep and mop the floors AND do side work. Then drive a whole fucking hour home at night, all to have to get up in 4 hours to go to my full-time job.
Speaking of, my full-time job is NOT EVEN CLOSE to how toxic this place was. It's a job where I do have frustrations at times, but I don't dread going in every day. Yet once I had to stay later and work more days, I started having conversations with my boss over my lack of energy and occasional tardiness in the mornings. And because there are nights where I'd have to stay super late and I wouldn't get home until after midnight, I'd be sleep deprived. Management noticed and they understood why I had the second job, but they became more rigid in their leniency and told me I had to make a decision on which job was more important. Of course I took my full time job, as it provides benefits. Also why I put in my two week's notice at the restaurant.
Not to mention the customers are CHEAP AS FUCK and INSANE. Like, on crazy weekend nights, we'd get the cheapest assholes come around. Would order hundreds of dollars of seafood and wine/beer and leave $5 as a tip. They were also demanding, entitled and would complain about food to get it comped or a discount. Many would pay with cash or gift card, then use card for the rest and tip on only the card total. Many folks who expected you to read their minds and know what they wanted without them having to tell you. People who would order their food to go and then have the audacity to sit at an empty table and ask us for drinks and service when they didn't leave a single tip. You know, cheap assholes.
But the biggest cheap asshole here was my most recent manager. He would only do one alcohol order a month and we'd never have the beers the customers wanted, so we lost out on sales and higher tips. He would give discounts to my tables willy nilly, which affected my tips. He would under order the items we needed and over order the things we didn't.
Even though he was cheap, he was also a shit manager that played favorites and expected everyone else to cater to his favorite' needs and whims. He basically forced me to work on Saturdays because his favorite server needed a ~rest day~ because she did soooo many sales on Fridays and needed help. Turns out that favorite server is a fucking abusive bitch. Just last fucking week, after I told my boss I would not work with her anymore after getting my food fucked with by her and tried to snipe my tips by her transferring some of my tables to under her name, he told me I have to "get over myself and let it go."
Did I also mention that she dead ass told me that if I wanted to snitch on her again, two things would happen: 1) She'd beat my ass to a pulp, and 2) I'd get fired because Manager hates me and loves her. After that threat, I did go to Manager and he told me to stop making up lies about her and learn to work with her. That's when I knew I had no support and my days were numbered.
I finally had enough today after a two top of a royal douchebag and his friend ran me ragged and kept teasing me about how I have to earn my tip from him. He kept saying "You have to get EVERYTHING perfect to get a tip, young lady :)" Which I knew what he was doing, I go to my manager and tell him I don't want to serve the two top because of their tip teasing. He said, "If not getting a tip from them is your biggest concern, then there's no problem. I'm not taking the table."
Turns out they were purposefully very indirect about ordering and I missed a single thing. How they did it was the douchebag would ask his friend, "Friend, did you want to order this combo meal?" And there would be no confirmation that they wanted it. So yeah, I fucked up, they didn't leave a tip and told my manager that I was awful. I ended up getting chewed out for missing the meal he comped for them. Even though they played mind games with me.
At that point, I knew I was not going to complete my two week's notice period. I officially told my manager I'm no longer coming in for shifts for the next week.
