After three years delivering Indian food in a rural locale and then nearly four years delivering Japanese in an urban locale, tonight I hang up my car keys and put away the delivery bag for the last time ever, hopefully. I'm off to London next week to begin a new career in the health service.
My last night tonight went amazing, I saw a lot of regular customers, especially for some reason a lot of my Saturday customers called tonight, so it was good to see them and tell them I was going. I got an extra large tip off two of them, as well as one of my regulars giving me £10 yesterday when I told him I was leaving. I got gifts and cards from my colleagues in the restaurant (and then more after as I'm now in my last shift at my other job), and so generally I am feeling the love.
I'm gonna really miss my delivery job, I love being paid to drive my car, I love the restaurant, I love the food and the discount, and the amazing staff and I've had a great boss who I owe a lot to (she rented me a flat above the shop and they loaned me their car to work in whenever I had problems with my own) and I'd do the job forever but it isn't really a career. So for those of you grinding away with deliveries, remember is isn't forever and better things can still come.
