So its about 11:30PM and this guy wanders in absolutely wasted. He could barely speak and he wanted to order a pizza. One of our drivers was coming back when he arrived and mentioned he was the only one in the car and had an open tall boy in the truck. This guy was definitely driving drunk.
But heres the kicker. He was also asking us directions on how to get to a local city. It was only 30 minutes away and not hard to get there, but the point was he wanted to do interstate driving dead drunk. At this point some of us start mentioning maybe we should call the police. A couple drivers did not want to call the police on a customer.
I was firmly on the call the police side because fuck drunk drivers.
Anyway, the whole 10 minutes hes waiting for the pizza hes still trying to get directions from my manager and is stuck on about part 2 of how to get there. Eventually we call the non emergency number. We have a phone in the back and the police station is about a minute away.
Not 2 minutes after the call I glance over and see two local cops pull up. At this point the guy has his pizza and is STILL not understanding. The cop walks up to the counter and says hi to us then looks over to the customer and goes
"Oh hey man, buying a pizza tonight?"
"Uhhh (hes wide eyed) I'm just trying to get directions)"
"Oh no problem man, come step outside with me real quick and we'll get you some directions."
que field sobriety test. Apparently they ended up not arresting him and just calling him a cab. Not sure how I feel about that, but maybe they knew something I didn't.
Anyway guys, how do you feel about calling cops on drunk customers? No hesitation? Not your problem? Anyone else have stories about calling on drunks?
