I started working at the casino resort in my area last year, and absolutely love the job! Here's a tale I wanted to share from last Summer about a particularly demanding out-of-state visitor.
It's the week of a major poker tournament, and players from all over the country pour in to our resort, just to put their poker skills and luck to the test. In comes a guest who makes us fully aware he hails from the Garden State - we'll call him "The Situation", or "TS" for short - as soon as I pull up his reservation, an alert pops up to remind me to ask The Situation for his AAA card.
OP: Welcome, Mr. Situation. It looks like you booked our AAA rate for the next five nights; could I please see your AAA card?
TS: I don't have a AAA card. Didn't I book under the Senior Citizen discount?
OP: Unfortunately, we don't have a Senior Citizen or AARP discount.
TS: But I'm from New Jersey, and I've come all the way here for the poker tournament.
OP: I'll go ahead and see what we can do for you.
I then head to the back office to relay The Situation's situation to my supervisor, who let me give a one-time exception to use the AAA discount without a AAA card.
OP: Okay, as a one-time courtesy, we can give you the AAA discount. Let's go ahead and review the information about this room.
TS: Aren't you gonna do something else for me since I'm here for five nights? I've come from New Jersey for this poker tournament, and I'm staying with you for five nights. Can't you give me another discount?
OP: I'll go ahead and check.
I head to the back office once more with TS's demands for a lower rate. Management tells me we can't lower the rate any further since we already have the AAA discount on there.
OP: Unfortunately the AAA rate is the best we can do at this time.
TS: This is bullshit, man. Everywhere I go, I always get a senior's discount, and you don't have one here? Just check me into my room so I can get some sleep.
I soon checked TS into his room, sent him up on his way, and haven't heard from him again. Imagine being so entitled to a discount just because you're over a certain age, then expecting said discount from a place that makes most of its revenue from seniors. I can't really speak for the casinos up in NJ, but I highly doubt they would have a Senior's discount either.
