I stayed at the hotel who's owner's name is Bill right at La Guardia one time. Went to the restaurant for dinner and so enjoyed how well prepared the vegetables were. Crisp, clearly made specifically for my order, and delicious.
I went to the front desk and asked if I could have Mr. Bill M.'s email address for a kudos email. Sadly only could provide with a feedback email address at corporate. So I wrote an email praising the chef by name, which I got because I asked to speak to him, He explained how he parboiled his veg. Wonderfui.
I got an email from him a few weeks later saying the district manager showed up. Of course the hotel managment were surprised and fawned over him. All he said was that he was here to speak with the chef in question. He praised him, showed him my email, and gave him a raise on the spot.
It pays to be nice sometimes.
