Granting a Late Check Out
Post Body

I'm at a property with a noon check out time and I find it intriguing how different people ask for a later checkout at my property. I am in charge of issuing late checkout and I have been trained to grant them based on my best judgement. No other shift does them and we don't actually have a guarantee for elite members to automatically have it, although I typically am able to accommodate them anyways. We don't have housekeeping at my property after second shift so sometimes it can be important to use proper discretion.

There are those who run chronically late and assume the checkout time is 10 or 11. Usually they must simply be reminded that the checkout time is actually noon. They always respond with a sigh of relief.

There are those who have extenuating circumstances. They are usually the ones who utilize late checkouts the most frequently. Sometimes guests are taking care of a pet or a small child that delays their day.

Then there's the guests who are so certain they will be late they go ahead and ask for a late check out. they know it's a 12:00 checkout time, but they ALSO know that since they know what time they are supposed to go they better ask for later lest they be tossed out of the hotel by their coats. They always leave by 11:00 on their 12:30 Departure time.

There's the folks who have some sort of occasion that is conveniently scheduled for RIGHT AT CHECKOUT time and couldn't fathom how to put their bags in their car prior to the occasion.

But my favorite are probably Super Shinies who think they are going to TAKE a late checkout from me. This isn't every loyalty guest but every once in awhile I get one (always an older than me male).

Last time this guy told me:
"They gave me a late checkout"

I decided to play along and ask him

"how late?"

"2:00" he responded confidently.

By 2:00 on this particular day I was going to have no housekeepers, or someone was going to be waiting around on that last room. If that late was granted there would have to be serious extenuating circumstances because there were only probably about 20 departures.

I was really curious who "they" could possibly be.

I wasn't entirely sure if maybe my supervisor went over my head for this particular guest so instead of just granting that late of a checkout, I said " I'll see what 'they' say"

I went back there and sicked Ga-Linda on him.

"He's getting a 12:30 checkout" she says. she calls him and tells him what's what.

Turns out mans just wanted to take a shower after his 12:00 meeting and didn't know how to ask.

He leaves at 11:30.
