It's my second day on AM Shift Here at the Catalina Inn in a fairly small state. I missed morning shift it's where all the action is.

This morning a lady from a govt agency who is staying with us for an undetermined extended stay. Has called me. Her refrigerator isn't running. Shes been out on business all weekend, so she didn't notice until now. I ask her when I could send someone up and she's ready now. Fortunately, it's first thing in the morning so I am full of solutions and possibilities.

The engineer gets to the refrigerator, no dice, it needs replacing.

I call the guest and try and get her a room move going, no dice, she says she has too much stuff and doesn't want to move.

okay that's cool.

so, the maintenance decides to take the refrigerator from the room she would move to and put it in her room. Cool, cool...

until the spot the refrigerator is hooked up to the wall bursts a pipe.

Water flowing everywhere.

I Get a call from engineering: "I'm going to have to cut off our water for 20-40 minutes or so"

I get a call from the room next to the room were moving the refrigerator from: "uh yeah we're just about to check out but there's water coming from behind our door and flooding the whole room"

oh jeez. I haven't even had coffee yet....

I contemplate making signs to uselessly stick all over the hotel:

"sorry for the inconvenience. the water will be out for about 20 minutes."

it's too late the phone's ringing

310, 312, 315, 405, 222 all call: "there's something wrong with the water"

Me: YES I am so sorry. we had a leak this morning on the 5th floor the water is currently off but should be back on in about 20 minutes.

One guy is mid- shower. "I hope you have some sort of compensation for this " he says to me

Anything you want guy.

I ended up removing his pet fee for the trouble.

Everyone has been a good sport. I'm thankful I'm not getting reamed for Catalina's Old hotel due for renovation troubles.

Miraculously the water is back on everything fixed and finished in 20 minutes. Fantastic job done by Bob the Engineer.

guest from 301 comes down. It's Jack Skellington with flesh and his girlfriend sensitive pastel purple lady:

JSWF: Our room has had no water for two hours. and the pipes are making a gurgling sound.

Me: Oh yes, 20 minutes ago the engineer had the water off to fix a leak on the 5th floor.

JSWF: it has not been 20 minutes. I'm sure it has been hours.

Me: Did you let us know at 6:20 am when your water stopped working?

JSWF: I wasn't up then.

Me: well, everything is handled now. You may hear the water moving out of the pipes. that's the gurgling sound.

I'm about to start feeling out what kind of service recovery I can perform for them, but Jack turns on his heel and starts storming off. Pastel GF right behind him for emotional support.
