A guy walks into a hotel room.... or doesn't actually
Post Body

Because his key doesn't work....

Hello my fellow front deskers.

Tonight, I'd like to tell you a tale a about a very crabby OTA user who I had quite an unusually bad encounter with that shook my usual unshakable sunny composure and I want to ask, what would you have done?

Mr. Hole has come to this Catalina Inn in a fairly small town in a fairly square state to stay with us for 3 nights.

For some reason Mr. Hole was granted an early check in and was helped By our newest addition to the desk, Former housekeeping rising star, Lola. It's Lola's second day on the desk ever and as standard she's doing great but prone to making mistakes, as we all do. This has got me on high alert to ensure everything goes smoothly since, I'm new too, just less so, and I have more technical experience under my belt.

I'm halfway through my typical second shift. Busy at the desk completing training and totally NOT on Reddit (this time) when Mr. Hole comes down with an issue. His key doesn't work.

H: This card you gave me turns every color but green, give me a new key to my room. 1313

Me: Oh, I'm sorry about that, what is the name on the room? (me thinking maybe he has accidentally tried the wrong room number)

H: Hole, Ass

I quickly pull up room 1313 and lo and behold Mr. Ass Hole has booked through a rather "speedy" OTA.

I'm thinking Maybe Lola forgot to charge the guest's key. No matter, this is an easy fix but as we all know, you never give a room key to a stranger without first verifying their identity.

Me: Yes Mr. Hole, I see you are here for three nights. I'd be happy to make you a key. Could I please see your id?

H: What do you need my ID for?

Me: I want to make sure I have the correct information. It's for security purposes.

H: How else would I have the information I just gave you? Just make the damn key

Mr. Hole isn't' going to shake me on this. I did not check this man in. It's my first time ever seeing him and he's trying to get into one of my rooms. I need a photo ID because I don't feel like calling the police on a rando who overheard a conversation or found a key packet on the ground. Ass Hole is a very common name. for all I know it could have been a lucky guess.

Me: I just want to make sure You are safe. Please show me your ID so I can make the key.

H: What are you, stupid or something?

Mr. Hole throws his ID at me. I look at it and it's a match. hooray :(

I make his key and he snatches it from my hand with attitude.

Mr. Hole then storms off back to his room shouting at me

H: MAKING SURE THAT DOOR UNLOSCKS IS YOUR ONLY DAMN JOB

I am seeing red. I consider Kicking Mr. Hole out of my hotel. This was such a small interaction but if you aren't going to respect me while I am doing my job making sure you are safe and comfortable, I do not want you to stay with me.

the thought of cancelling him and telling "speedia" they need to relocate their dog to another kennel crosses my mind.

the thought of going up to room 1313 and resetting the key to the room crosses my mind.

I start to write my AGM Galinda the Good Witch a long text message about how much of an Ass Mr. Hole was to me, and I stop. A moment of clarity.

I don't want to see Ass Hole anymore. I'm going to do nothing but take some notes about this and see what happens tomorrow. Maybe Mr. Hole was having a bad day and his key not working was icing on the cake. Although, I feel like he's just one of those folks who think that service industry people don't have feelings.

I hit my vape and eat a cookie. Forget about Mr. Hole and Give my next three guests to check in Complimentary upgrades. I feel better.

But, my fellow hoteliers, what would you have done? Kicked him out? DNR? Reset the lock? Sicked Galinda on him? I'm all ears.
