So, I began working for a new company about a month ago. I loved my old one but they couldnāt match the pay, so I figured Iād try my luck. The first few days went ok. The GM was extremely rude to guests, and that made me uneasy considering we are in the field of hospitality. All of the requests werenāt out of the ordinary either, he just didnāt want to do them. One lady called down asking for a crib. He told me to tell her we didnāt have anyā¦ only later to chuckle and admit he just didnāt want to go get it out of storage, and if they were bringing a baby why didnāt they bring their own crib? Luckily I was able to locate it and bring it to them. Anyway, I let him know in writing Iād be visiting family out of state for 8 days (3 weeks ahead of time). Now, I know I havenāt been there 90 days, but this is a family emergency kind of trip, not exactly a fun OR planned one. He informed me a few days later he could not get it approved with HR. Now, let me step back for a second. āHR,ā is a lady that works in the same office as my GM, but TECHNICALLY is not even AN EMPLOYEE. My GM spends several nights a week at the hotel with HER. Then, goes home to his wife and small child after telling her he has to pull 24 hr shifts. Okay back to my story. I panicked in that moment & told him Iād try to talk to my family. After speaking with them, and many more accounts of guest and employee abuse by this man, I caved. I texted him and said I would not be working there anymore due to the fact I not only specified consistency and day shifts, I did not apply for 12 hour or night shifts. All of these were things that were discussed in my interview and it wasnāt a problem. He only responded to the part about me not being able to work those days with, āthatās a bummer but okā. Whatās a bummer, sir is you jacking the prices up $30-$40 a night when we advertise for much lower! Only the tip of the iceberg with this genius. Iām glad I quit the way I did. I apologies this time because tbh, Iām not sorry. #talesfromthefrontdesk hotel version
