You can leave and your little dog too

Post Body

This weeks dog tale(or should it be tail?) occurs on 2 non consecutive days this week. Last sunday I was asked to cover night audit for a 3rd day which is no problem as I work friday and Saturday NA. I get informed during changeover by pm shift that there's a service animal but doesn't act like its a service dog. As she's starting to fill me in this guy and his gf come down with their little white puffball dog.

I start watching them as does PM. They come to our sundry shop and the young women loses hold of the leash. Dog trots off but she grabs it fairly quickly so we didn't say anything at this point but that was the first dead give away that it's not an actual service dog. So they buy their snack and go out the front door into the night. PM says after they leave that was part of why she thinks its not a service dog because it did that earlier too and the guy when he checked in tossed down the dogs service animal license. I tell her I'll keep an eye out for them when they come back.

They come back through and the dog is on the leash so so far everything is ok for the most part. Basically I was hoping that was the last I'd see of them. Little bit of time goes by and I'm now in the back office doing some project work with our security cameras in front of me. I notice the gf is now carrying the dog and its switched from its "service animal vest" to a more stylish tan sweater. So they come down to the lobby and I let them know that per ADA guidelines for service animals in hotels in oregon the dog needs to be leashed and walking not carried at all times. Girl sets dog down and decides she's just gonna go back to the room holding the leash now like I asked.

Boyfriend then comes to the desk demanding a new key since they were going out to their car just for a second. I say ok i can do that no problem. Im trying to maintain my politeness because some people dont know the guidelines even though they honestly should if they have a service animal. He starts spouting off that its midnight and I should chill on the policy bro. I tell him no its a government policy and if the dog can't comply they will have to leave. He mutters something and takes his key and goes out to his car. That was the last in person interaction.

So(yes that was intentional) I go back to the cameras to see if she kept the dog on the leash once she returned to her floor. Sure enough she let the leash go in the elevator because the dog bolts out of the elevator and is running up and down the hall. Reviewed more footage and the dog was running around several times. But since I am not sure if I can boot them out or not I leave it be. Talked to my GM next day and he says next time if they dont comply call the room and tell them they have to leave. Ok can do

Now for the fun part. So tonight we had no check-ins remaining when I arrived. I ask PM if its been quiet. She says yes so thats where I jinxed myself folks because I then said oh good it will be a quiet night for me too.

A new reservation pops up about 15 mins into my shift. Name looks familiar but no notes or anything and its a 3rd party so I pay no real attention to it after getting it set up. I go and begin cleaning our coffee area when our buzzer goes off. Guy is holding it down till I walk over. He looks familiar but honestly I see alot of people daily. He hands me his ID and yep you guessed it its Mr wonderful from sunday. He then hands me the dogs service animal license and so I get to inform him the dog is not allowed on the property.

I am polite once again because honestly I am tired and was in no mood to argue so i let him know that management reviewed footage and saw the dog running the halls not following the guidelines. I said I will cancel your reservation for you if the dog can not be taken elsewhere. That causes him to lose his mind. He calls me the B word then a P word and that its so ridiculous that we are making a big deal over a ten pound dog. I said well you were told by me about the guidelines on sunday night and you refused to follow them and we are not a pet friendly hotel unless it is a service animal that abides by the rules. He starts cussing again so I finally raised my voice and said yeah I am gonna need you to leave immediately because we don't tolerate verbal abuse of the staff.

He then threatens to kick my butt(keeping this as pg as i can folks) so now its really time for him to go. Once I mention having to call the cops if he refuses to leave he squares up like he really wants to try something. I'm a pretty big dude and this guy was obviously on something because his eyes were not right when I was first getting his ID. Finally he leaves but kinda wish he had tried something so I could have like body slammed him onto the front desk or put him in a headlock and smacked him with the phone lol

Never did see the gf or the fluffball this time but probably cause I didn't check him in. But they are both on DNR and their little dog too.
