This is a long rant, feedback is appreciated!

So I was diagnosed with cervical Cancer about 6 months ago and have a pre op appointment tomorrow for a procedure already scheduled for the end of the month. I got a call from my doctors office about 3 hours ago. The office manager told me I have a large fee that needs to be paid in order to see the doctor. Now my health insurance is great and besides my copay I don’t have other payments due for these appointments so I asked her what charges were in the bill,

The office manager (whose name is actually Karen) rudely said to me that I missed several previous appointments and there was a $50 Fee for each missed one. I asked her if I could have the dates for the missed appointments as I wasn’t sure what she was referencing and she gave me one date (which she had to search the system and find) and told me I should be aware of the others. I told her that appointment had been cancelled and I needed the other dates to confirm. She stated that I was giving her a hard time and if I don’t pay the fee in full my pre op appointment tomorrow was being cancelled. I asked her if my doctor could call me in the event that my appointment was being cancelled as I had necessary questions about any delay in my procedure and she told me that me speaking to my doctor about this was not necessary as she was hired to speak to me so he could focus on his medical work. She then proceeded to tell me that if I continued to give their office a hard time she was submitting a referral out to a different doctor and terminating my care and then hung up on me.

I barely got a peep in during that conversation. She was constantly talking over me and yelling, I felt like I was being scolded by my mother. What’s worse is this doctor is my cancer specialist. It’s going to take me time to find another specialist and He specifically said that I needed this procedure as soon as possible. Should I just pay the damn fee and suck it up? Do you think my doctor even knows about this going on in his practice? It’s not a huge office and he sees a lot of patients, I don’t have a direct contact number for him aside from his office. I’m really upset with this bs and I’m not sure what to do :(

Update:

I had my doc appointment and they cancelled my appointment after I got there and after I payed the fee. The doctors receptionist told me that my doctor got called into the hospital for a delivery and they had to cancel my appointment and reschedule. I rescheduled it for this Thursday but I received a call from the doctors office this morning, and the receptionist told me that they had a conference with the doctor and he decided to refer me out to another physician for better quality of care. Idk what to do. My surgery is cancelled too
