For the second year in a row, I booked my daughters birthday party at the same local bounce house play place. They have pre made party package bundles where you choose how many people will attend, food options, etc. I paid the deposit before hand. Then, when we arrived they showed me the contract with all the charges we would have to pay for the rest of the party ($400). I agreed, signed, and the party began.
At the end, when we went to pay the final bill, they were trying to charge me $100 extra for our guests sitting in chairs while the adults were eating. I refused to pay it because it wasn’t disclosed, wasn’t in the contract, and who the hell charges customers to SIT in their chairs when they are eating food purchased from THEIR establishment?
After arguing back and forth with the manager, things started getting heated. At this point my SO got involved and was pissed. We had already agreed to pay $400, not a penny more. We tried multiple times to hand them the credit card to pay the $400 we owed, not the $500 they wanted to charge us. They refused to take the card at this point unless we would sign a new contract for their made up costs. We insisted multiple times we wanted to pay the agreed upon amount, not the extra charges. They continued to refuse.
30 minutes goes by and they still won’t swipe our card, so we finally said fine, we are leaving. I left my CC number and said they could charge me for $400 and not a penny more. What did they do? Call the cops on us for intent to defraud. I actually had to speak with the PD and explain the whole thing in front of my daughter who’s now getting upset.
I am not one to argue or cause a conflict at all, but the manager was being absolutely ridiculous.
In order to avoid arrest, I let them charge me for $500, then called the CC company and contested the extra $100 charge. I won.
2 months later, this place is permanently out of business. Good.
