So, first time posting here. Hope I’m on point.
I work in the cafe section of a big box store and one of the items we sell is popcorn. People like said popcorn and it’s alright. So one day a few weeks ago, I was going through my usual workday routine when two customers who appeared to be a mother and daughter approach asking for a bag of popcorn and with the age-old question of “how old is the popcorn”.
Me: Oh, I popped this batch about an hour ago.
Her, the mother: An hour ago?
Me: Yes, ma’am. I’m about to start a new batch if you don’t mind waiting a few minutes.
See, contrary to popular belief, we don’t pop the popcorn the entire day. We’re a low volume store, or more specifically my section is low volume so making more popcorn than needed ends up with more popcorn we have to throw away at the end of the night. So I side with caution and try to aim for popping enough popcorn for the day but not where we’ll have dozens of bags to throw away either.
Her: That’s not the question.
Me: Sorry, ma’am?
Her: You’re willing to sell me popcorn that’s been sitting there for an hour?
Me: Yes ma’am.
With that she made an annoyed grunt and her and her daughter stormed off. The customer behind her, another woman and also mother, looked at her storming off, looked at me, and then rolled her eyes before ordering the same thing.
Long story short, some customers take their popcorn really seriously.
