Going to try and put this best into words. i started working at a large supermarket a few years back and i've been put on the main till that is always open due to good customer service/wierd hours. anyway, usualy the days are suckish but i enjoy the kids that come in because dam, they allways make me happy. i get high fives from every kid that comes in and ask them about there days. parents love it because they dont have to worry about their kids running around, and the kids love being helpfull and talking. anyway, about 3 months after we opend i had this young girl (5) come in. she would hardly talk when i met here and had real trouble talking about stuff with anyone. over the last year we have gone from no talking to her dragging her parents to my till every time, she tells me all about her day, she started going to karate and is now doing awesome and going into second year of school. she recently got huge into comics so i (a HUGE) comic nerd got her address off her parents (they love me and how i helped her) and sent her a massive bundle of old comics for her to look through. this christmas i got a xmas card and a small gift written by her and i was reduced to almost tears. i just got her some kids easy reading comics at the last event i went to and her mum was just telling me how greatfull she was, how she made them put up the poster i gave her as soon as she saw it and how she wanted to take the comics to school to show her friends.
i dont know, but this is why i wanted to work with kids. not to do the paperwork around working with them, but to actually help and talk to them. its strange i feel im doing more good in a supermarket giving out high fives and short conversations than i could of done as a teacher with all the extra work,.
