As a small bit of needed backstory, I am an identical twin. When we were younger, my brother and I worked in the same place for our first job, at a grocery store. We've had our fair share of wacky stories, but this is one of my favorites.
One day, during the beginning of my shift, a lady came through my line and struck up a conversation we'd had previously. This isn't terribly unusual; it's a small town and everybody knows everybody. But after a few minutes, I realized there was a hitch- I didn't remember any of this conversation at all, probably because she'd had it with my brother. My confusion must have shown on my face, because after a minute she stopped midsentence to ask,
"You have no idea what I'm talking about, do you?"
"No ma'am. I'm afraid you must have been talking to my brother about this last time."
"That's just rude of you. If you forgot, you should have just said!"
"Honestly, ma'am, I think you were speaking to my brother. We look a lot alike..."
"No, I'm absolutely sure it was you. Don't lie to me, you don't have a brother!"
I was stunned, but fortunately the twin in question was just off the floor, counting in a till. As soon as I regained my composure, I called for him. When he grudgingly stuck his head out of the break room, the customer's face turned very red. The rest of the checkout was very quiet.
