The condiment tray is not personal...
Post Body

I work as a waitress in a mall restaurant, a typical "order at the till, get your food on a tray and go sit at a table"-version. We keep all the accessories like straws, cutlery and condiments next to the soda machine so that it's easily accessible for everyone. All the condiments are in a big "box" or "tray" with little sections for different kinds - four for ketchup, one for salt packs, one for pepper, two for hot sauce, you get the idea. I'd say its about 2' across. It also has handles on each side so its easy to carry behind the till for restocking. This apparently means that it is also okay to grab it and carry it of to random tables when the customers feels like it. I've had to go over more times than I can count, explain that "Please, do not take the condiment tray, we only have one for all our customers" and almost having to apologize for taking it back where it belongs. It happened once again yesterday and when I went to bring it back since other customers started asking where the ketchup had gone the group who had taken it told me that since they where so many (six or seven in total) they should be allowed to keep it at their table for their convenience. Yeah, don't mind the other fifteen or so people in the restaurant at the time... I once again explained that we only have the one, brought it back and got glares for the rest of the groups stay...

I swear, I am going to nail it to the counter one of these days....

3M double sided tape and lots of it. ....Or if managements feeling really maniacal, I'd slap them with a "$100 condiment tray rental fee". Just post a few signs around it saying that if they pick it up, they are agreeing to pay the restaurant $100 per every time they move it to their table and it has to be retrieved. The restaurant makes a quick buck, you get to watch them melt down and subsequently get hauled off by mall security.
