Hello all
My partner and I are planning a trip to Taiwan, arriving at TPE Monday 24 Feb at 1600 hrs and leaving Saturday 1 Mar at 2030. We've booked a hotel room on Hanzhong st in the Wanhua district for all 5 nights, as it seemed like a nice place in a pretty central area.
We were thinking about putting together an itinerary but before doing so, we wanted to see what you good people have to say.
For transpo, we hope to rely solely in public transportation, having read all the wonderful things about the MRT. The occational Uber/ Grab isn't out of the question, nor is renting a scooter to get to places.
We love nature hikes as well as meandering through city streets and alleys, hot springs, food and people watching. We aren't into the party scene and don't drink much alcohol.
Here is a list of the various things we are hoping to do while there:
- food, definitely high up there in terms of priority. We already LOVE century eggs, bubble tea and all things tofu. Tea houses, xia long bao, seafood, hot pot, etc.. We basically want to immerse ourselves in taiwanese food culture. Of course, which night market(s) do you recommend to fulfill that desire.
- Also other cultural points of interest, art is important to us, from "high art" to murals. Strolling through historic neighbourhoods (Dadaocheng comes to mind) are right up our alley.
- We would love to visit some hot springs, Beitou is one location we've looked into, curious if you have any other suggestions. We are from California so we have been to both undevelopped hotsprings and resorts and loved both experiences.
- Another outside town excursion we are interested in is Juifen/ Shifen Old street. Would you make that a day trip on its own, or would you combine that with other sights?
We understand that having a plan is important to making "the most" of a trip, but we also realise that sometimes the best memories can be made when one lets the chips fall where they may.
So, I think that encompasses it. We really appreciate your taking the time to read through this and sharing some of your insights.
