I visited Taipei 6 years ago and fell in love with the city, and I want to live there, at least for a while.
I searched for this question, and while I’ve found some info, it’s hard to find anything that relates 100%, so I apologize if this type of question has been asked too much.
I’m American, and an artist. I work as a ceramics technician, and would love to work in a studio in Taipei. Because I’m an artist, my income is low. I have no Mandarin skills, but am planning to start taking courses.
I see that many people utilize the 90 day visa option, and continue renewing by leaving the country for a short time. While this seems like a great option, I don’t have a remote job and would need to make money while in Taiwan.
I see there is a gold card option, but since my Mandarin abilities are pitiful and my income is low, I’m guessing I’d be automatically disqualified?
Then there’s the employer-sponsored work visa. Is this mostly for tech people, or is it at all likely that I could find an employer in the creative field who would be willing to sponsor me?
The other path could be artist residencies, which I might ask about in another post. But if you have any leads/insight into foreign artists that manage to work in Taiwan I would really appreciate it!
If you could help push me in the right direction in terms of visa paths it would be very helpful! Thank you!
