The way that the mods hand down decisions in #TPmods in the IRC is inconsistent, emotionally-based, and subjective. Frankly I don't know how no one has said something like this already. The mods basically have free reign in the IRC and they do as they please with no guidelines or procedures to follow. Different mods follow different standards, and when someone is in a bad mood they take it out on others.
This is a list of things that need to be addressed. The official responses need to be written somewhere so everyone knows them.
Do past games influence whether a report gets removed or not? In my opinion, a past game should not matter because the person doing the reporting only has observed one game. When a report's removal is based on past games, it becomes a trial of who the mods like or not. Reports issued in past games should not count against future games, doing that is like double jeopardy.
There needs to be a system to appeal decisions to another mod. Mods are humans and they have emotions. I've witnessed many occasions of mods making stupid decisions because they were upset due to other things that had happened. Since there is no accountability, they have no reason to care if your complaint is handled well or not.
What qualifies as "offensive?" The code of conduct attempts to address this but it's not working. I am trying to not make this about me, but when I was reported for offensive chat for saying "shit" and only the word "shit," I was told to "tone down" my chat, and asked if I "needed" to say that. I obviously get that insults aren't allowed, but are we really so sensitive that non-insulting swear words need to be reported? In my case, it didn't qualify as offensive/insulting/harassing but it still wasn't removed.
Complaints asking for a report removal should be evaluated based on whether the report was accurate. I saw someone in the IRC say that they didn't wait when the other team wanted to, and was reported for it. The mods told him that "it's against the rules to be a dick" and then banned him from the #TPMods channel. Besides that not being a rule, it's also not a rule that you have to wait, and it's also not a valid report that "so-and-so didn't wait."
Friendliness. Whenever I go in the IRC, the mods are arguing against me, not trying to work out a solution with me. It's just a bad environment. It's extremely frustrating when you're trying to tell your side of the story and you get !served trying to cut you off, statements like "why are you still arguing," and "stop debating."
It's about time we got some rules and order. I'd appreciate it if we could not call out specific mods and also keep the discussion serious. Please no memes or jokes.
