Shower thought about deadly missions

When there used to be deadly missions, survivors who die in these would die permanently. So let's say you only have three survivors in your camp, if you were to let them all struggle so that they would die, would the game actually permanently kill all of them so that you have no survivors left? It's a shame that I didn't think of this before because I wish I could test this and find out.
