I mean by this I mean how different would it be when it comes to names of certain elements on the periodic table that were discovered since 1939.
Also to make it clear, uranium was discovered in 1789. Just in case any might be confused with mistaking it for being discovered around the same time of neptunium and plutonium.
And funny enough the more I thought about the periodic table and how it would be different in TNO, I decided to come up with a possible list of what I suppose would be the alternate names of elements in TNO.
Elements discovered after 1939
Asgardium (Ad) - Francium despite being discovered in 1939, it wasn't until 1949 in OTL when it officially got its name as francium. But seeing the France got screwed over in World War II in TNO, then surely the Germans ended up naming the element after a mythical place in Norse mythology, so I picked Asgard seeing how a guy like Himmler would like it being named after a place in Norse mythology seeing how he is obsessed with it.
Odinium (Od) - Basically Neptunium, but I would think that it could be possible that the Americans had discovered it separately and still named it Neptunium. But the Germans would argue they discovered it first and name it after the Norse god Odin)
Jormungium (Jo) - Plutonium basically. I named it after the monster in Norse mythology being Jörmungandr which in Old Norse translates to "huge monster". Basically in Norse mythology it is a giant serpent that surrounds the world in a circle grasping its own tail (if you know what ouroboros is this is exactly where it came from), when it releases its tail then Ragnarök will begin. So seeing how very important that would be to Himmler, he probably would love making his nukes with Jormungium)
Americium (Am)/Osterium (Ot) - Basically put the Germans would argue they discovered the element first before the US did, while Americans would say they discovered it first and therefore they would use the name americium. So in the Greater Germanic Reich they would use the name osterium which they named after Austria as it's name in German is Österreich. Plus the Germans would surely name it after Hitler's home country of Austria.
Gaussium (Gs) - Basically Curium, but in this world the Reich found it first and instead of naming it after Marie Curie (seeing she is Polish) they would instead name it after famous German mathematician and physicist Carl Friedrich Gauss. It could be possible that Americans and other nations might of discovered it first and named it something else.
Nihonium (Nh)/Berkelium (Bk) - Not to be confused with Element 113 (Nihonium), as it wouldn't really be given that name until OTL 2016. In TNO, it very likely the Japanese could have discovered berkelium in their experiments and as a result named it after Japan (being called Nihon in some cases). But at the same time it likely the Americans discovered it first and instead refer to it as berkelium seeing how Berkeley, California is apart of the US in TNO seeing the Japanese only took was San Francisco (the city to be precise not the metropolitan area).
Shimonium (Sh)/Californium (Cf) - Shinonium I gave its name after Kotaro Shimonura seeing he would be considered a good candidate for naming the element after a Japanese chemist. However of course Americans would say they discovered Californium first and name it after the state of California. (Besides California needs some love)
Fenririum (Fr)/Einsteinium (Es) - In the Reich they would call it fenririum after Fenrir from Norse mythology. But in US and other OFN nations they named it Einsteinium in honor of Albert Einstein (Speaking of which does TNO lore even mention what happened to Einstein?)
Ymirium (Ym) - Basically OTL Fermium.
Raijinium (Ri) - Basically OTL Mendelevium, but lets say the Japanese discovered it and named it after the Shinto god (or kami if that is what you prefer) Raijin would was the deity of thunder, lightning, and storms.
Nobelium (No)* - This one is going to be quite a clusterfuck of arguments. Because in OTL when nobelium was discovered many scientists in the US, Sweden and Soviet Union argued they discovered it first. Although the first announcement of Element 102 by physicists at the Nobel Institute in Sweden in 1957. The rest of the history of Nobelium gets more weird as Americans and Soviets began saying "We discovered it first". Now how exactly this would turn out in TNO is quite different to say the least. Germans might say the discovered it first, Americans might say they did, Japanese might say "no actually we did", Italians will be like "actually no we found it first", and Swedes be like "mmkay".
Lawrencium (Lw)/Freyrium (Fy) - Basically same as OTL, but the symbol Lw is kept. Germans would probably have discovered it first in their particle and atomic experiments and would have named it after Freyr from Norse mythology. Yes at this point you guys can see how I am going with names from Germanic/Norse mythology for certain elements.
Rontgium (Ro)/Rutherfordium (Rf) - Rontgium gets it name after Wilhelm Röntgen who is a German mechanical engineer and physicist who is otherwise known for discovering X-rays. It could be possible that Americans would not really mind it being named that seeing that the discovery of x-rays was very important in the medical field and other science.
Newtonium (Nw) - OTL Bohrium. The Reich surely wouldn't accept the name bohrium seeing how Niels Bohr helped many refugees escaping Nazism to which the Reich government would consider it treasonous. Then again I don't know if TNO even mentions what happened to Niels Bohr. Also the name Newtonium gets it name from Isaac Newton in case that wasn't obvious.
Turium (Tr)/Seaborgium (Sb)/Bavarium (Bv) - In OTL Seaborgium was discovered in 1974 when the first few atoms of it were produced in Soviet and American labs. But due to the naming dispute between Soviet and American scientists the element Seaborgium didn't get an official name until 1997. So I think in TNO the Italians would argue that they discovered Element 106 at the University of Turin in 1972 (They can surely discover it a couple years earlier than in OTL), while Germans would say they discovered it in 1974 and named it after Bavaria, while Americans would name it after Glenn T. Seaborg. So yeah there would be a naming dispute.
So yeah.... Fun to speculate on how the periodic table would be like in TNO. I wondered what you guys think honestly, do you think that surely there would be different names for elements in TNO?
