Hey guys, I wanted to make this post to hopefully help at least one person
I had TMJ issues on both sides for 3 years. Voltaren gel didn’t help. A night mouth guard didn’t help. 4 months of physical therapy didn’t help. Dry needling, ice, heat, didn’t help. In fact, it seemed like all of those things were just making it worse.
I’m on the antidepressant Lexapro. Last summer I increased my dosage from 10 mg to 20 mg. my TMJ pain went away.
I’m not saying this will be the case for you, but when I upped the dosage of my antidepressant, my TMJ pain went away, and I’m guessing it might have to do with less subconscious jaw clenching due to less anxiety from the upped dose of my medicine.
Just something to consider - if you’re on antidepressants and have room to go up, try, because it might bring relief!
Thanks, let me know if you have any questions :)
