Upon seeing one of the latest release notes, I noticed a bugfix "PvP on islands has been semi-fixed'. Then I'd though to myself that such a feature would be insane, since the only form of PvP was in set-up matches. PvP on islands can happen in the following scenarios:
Our current form of privateering, where ships belonging to either side can land on a small spit/island between the two islands that we've pledged our allegiances to. Over here, PvP can occur in a free-for-all, or a capture the central base and hold it, or even a MoBA style with two bases on opposite ends of the island.
After fulfilling the quest to prove your loyalty to either the French or Spanish, you get a tattoo of that side. Unfortunately in the previous game, having the tattoo was merely ostensible. It should be a symbol of commitment whereby we are bound to adhere only to one side. This results in a unique form of PvP where attacks can be launch led on either Ile de Porc or Isla de la Avaricia. The islands are filled with battlements and empty space which aren't put to use. Imagine sprawling battles happening over the entire land? That'd be cool. Which leads me to talk about a different form for privateering...
Affiliations. Back in 2011 or so, Disney had a live survey for this game about which upcoming features the players would love to see in the game. One of these was choosing your affiliation among the Navy, EITC, Undead and so on. I'd think that this could make for a more diverse form of PvP. Imagine being a privateer flagship hired by the Navy to protect a fleet of merchant and Royal Navy ships, travelling from Port Royal to Padres dF, from Pirates; or being made a bounty hunter for the EITC to attack a pirate guild's base, after purchasing the uniform from a specific tailor; or being sent on a quest to retrieve an item from Davy Jones' Crew for Jolly Roger's forces. Even Spanish and French affiliations can extend beyond the war of Garcia and Porc. Maybe joining a Spanish side can increase the price on ivory from loot by about 20%, as they send us to attack the Dutch East India Company.
Extrapolating one feature from the previous, complicated point about choosing a side, I think that having Flagships in Ship-vs-Ship between the two islands would be crazy too. Perhaps becoming so would require a high bounty in the game that's been played. Maybe doing a quest for the Undead would permit the captain of a ship, at a specific high level of bounty/score, will allow him to summon the Undead Spanish/French ships to his side.
PvP has a lot of interesting possibilities, and I hope that we can eventually make the most fun out of it. I'm not sure if I should post it here or the piratesforums for the devs to at least look at these ideas, but I hope it's worth it.
