How does THPS 1+2 exist?

May sound like a dumb question but hear me out.

So if I understand correctly, after the launch of Pro Skater 5 in 2015, Activision lost the license to the franchise due to it being timed out.

After that, we had an independent TH game for mobiles that was handled by a different studio. Ok.

So then, how could Activision remake two games from a franchise they no longer owned? Is it because they had the rights for the og games and it’s just they can not launch new games under the brand of Tony Hawk? Is it because Tony himself asked for them to do it?

Idk, it’s seems weird and I haven’t find an answer yet.
