Do you really need multiple jobs/gigs to have a decent pay in Vietnam?

I got my TEFL and my background check (I already have my BA). From what I've seen, I have most of what it requires to teach abroad now. I'm interested in a few places, though I do really want to move somewhere that I can save/pay off student loan stuff easily. Barring China, Vietnam comes up often in conversation.
However, I hear from a whole of people that they make it work by having multiples tutoring gigs, in addition to their teaching job.
Do positions in that country not pay enough so that teachers have to take other jobs? What's the situation there? What have I been mistaken about?
