I was just curious if anyone else had any experience with this, recent-ish (2020-2022 P2 units).
I bought a 1200 P2 in early 2021, and had to RMA it because the fan started grinding horribly. EVGA didn't have stock to replace it at the time, so they gave me a 1000W G5 and some EVGA credit instead. The 1000W G5 was good for about a year (although it did smell for like the entire first week) before its fan also started grinding. I went ahead and RMA'd it, and have it set aside for a backup.
I bought a new 1000W P2 last week, and while not unbearably loud, it's noticeably louder under load than the G5. I have to use the eco mode for it to be anywhere near as quiet as the old G5 was at idle. Just to give an idea, this 1000W P2 is the loudest component by far in a system with 2 AIOs (Arctic Freezer 360 on a 10900K, 3090 Hybrid).
Is this just common for these units to be this loud? They're very well reviewed, so I am left wondering if any stock is just new old stock, or if they just aren't manufactured to the same standard since their release. I'm honestly somewhat disappointed in what I thought was supposed to be a top tier PSU. The noise level is close to enough for me to swap in the RMA'd G5 and then keep the P2 as a backup instead, or even just get something different altogether.
I have custom cables that fit these G2/P2-G5/P5 units, so I am pretty limited to either EVGA or Super Flower units. I think the newer 6's are Seasonic so I don't think they fit those.
Edit: sorry about the title, no idea why it shows them in title case when you submit but doesn't keep that formatting?
