Dummy looking for advice

Me and a friend are currently trying to decide on a TCG to invest in, but I'm struggling to find some generalised pro and con lists comparing games. So here I am asking for some guidance.
I've dabbled in MTG and Pokèmon in the past, and my friend played a lot of Lightseekers way back when. Not sure if that info helps, but it is what it is.
One small note: YGO is a big nope.
