Which characters should I invest in for PvP?

Pic is of the 5* characters I currently have.
If someone say Cain, I’m going to scream. I know Cain is good, and I know you can’t remove him from the group.
I’m pretty new to the game. Today is literally only my 7th day. Mostly F2P, only spent money on some rubies so I could get Luna during the recent pickup banner.
I just don’t want to waste resources while they’re still abundant as these kinds of games typically slow down your progression the more you play.
