How did you dip in your toes to test the water?

I see that phrase and used quite a bit in this Subreddit and it means something different to everyone. For some it means wanting to check out a club and see how they feel. For others like my wife and I, we had drinks and conversation with another couple before getting it on. But everyone who has used that phrase in a statement or question is ready to get out there and start the journey.
