Technically swinging is defined by swapping partners, but I notice a lot of people consider themselves as swingers when they are sharing sexual experiences with their partners, such as when the are having a FFM threesome.
Another thing I've noticed is that some quite a few redditors that are more on the sport fucking side of things will indicate anything that includes an attachment or emotions, isn't swinging, they feel that would be in the polyamory category, but not appropriate for the Swingers Reddit. Sure it's polyamory, but it also fits every definition of being a swinger.
When I started this, I thought it would be more of 1970s scene where you met up with people at a party and each went back to the room with the partner you had chosen. I didn't realize it was almost always same room group sex. But I would say the VAST majority of Redditors consider this as a key component in swinging, they are more about sharing the experience, verses swapping partners.
So I'm curious, without any research, what would be your initial answer if someone asked you what it means to be a swinger? NO WRONG ANSWERS! I'm curious what everyone's individual definition of it is, even if it doesn't align with Google and Wikipedia's definitions.
I’d say what swinging is is adding any sexual partner into your primary relationship without going to the extent of romance/love (which would enter the polyamory zone). So it could be MFF, MFM, swaps, etc.
As far as HOW it’s done is the other aspect of your post. And the cool thing about that is I think there’s tons of ways to do it and be involved in it. To each their own we say!

Not saying you can’t do both! Just that swinging and poly are different things
