The wife and I just happen to be traveling to NOLA during NIN '24 for another conference. We learned about NIN too late to stay at the main hotel (or second for that matter), and already had lodging reserved. The wife is very interested in attending some of the seminars, so I emailed the organizers to explain the situation. They said we could still sign up without a hotel reservation and that we would still have access to all the other events. Our concern is that they haven't posted the schedule for the seminars (only list past years), so we are unsure if the fee is worth it.

Our questions:

  1. Do they send you the schedule after you register, and if so, does anyone have it and would be willing to share?

  2. Has anyone ever run across folks who attended the events/parties/play rooms that didn't have a reservation at one of the hotels?

  3. What parties are must attends and recommended attire? We were interested in the foam party from years past but have never had a chance to attend.

  4. Is Colette worth attending on this particular Saturday or will it be too crowded?

I haven't run into anyone who told me they were visiting with a day pass, but I imagine it is inconvenient unless you're staying very close by.

We had a day pass to the NOPSI last year. I would not do it again, because it only lets you into the NOPSI, and not the Astor. People seem to move back and forth between the two hotels, and the night action seemed to be mainly at the Astor. So the evenings at the NOPSI were dead when we were there.

My recommendation is you get the more expensive pass.
