Just got back from a Bliss cruise to Bahamas/DR on Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas. I wish I'd read more reviews on here before going, so I figured I'd leave one.
Overall we had a blast, we were together and on vacation, and we're very glass half full people. There was the usual diversity and body positivity, the weather was pretty gorgeous and we had some great conversations. We were with LS friends who hadn't cruised before either, but we're all Desire regulars.
THE GOOD
The theme nights were fun, the ship's crew were fantastic and there were extra bars set up all over, so no wait for drinks. The buffet food was at least decent, and had a couple of things that were really good. The ship is super clean and felt safe and the cabin, although tiny, was amazingly well laid out and there was plenty of storage. The bartenders are amazing and make great drinks. Yes, the drinks package pays for itself, easily, if you are even a moderate drinker.
THE BAD
Smokers EVERYWHERE!!!! One entire half of the main pool deck was a smoking permitted area, as well as the casino and several of the other decks, and I felt like it was very hard to get away from the smell of cigarettes.
The playrooms were plain and unimaginative, no effort to create ambiance or sexy atmosphere with décor or lights.
The workshops were an absolute waste of money, we went to an orgy one and a prostate one, the orgy one was just being in a playroom with 20 random people and a curated "consent circle" at the start, then play commenced with people you wouldn't have chosen otherwise. The prostate one was so oversold, we couldn't hear what the instructor was saying half the time the space was too big and there were a lot of people. If you know approximately where the prostate is, then you know what I know after attending.
THE PEOPLE
We met some super cool people, and ran into plenty of acquaintances but there was a definite trashy vibe compared to Desire, Hedo or a good house party or hotel takeover. I definitely would not go again, I'd much rather save a little longer and go to Desire. I'm in my early 50s and it truly wasn't that there was a younger crowd that was offputting, the younger people were generally great (and gorgeous!). I would say that a around 20% of attendees were the kind of swingers we try to avoid...loud, drunk, obnoxious smokers.
Wow! Thanks for the review. We already donât like cruises much, so this helps cement that we wonât be attending one of these moving forward
This was our 6th Bliss (2nd April). We havenât booked an April in a while and remember why: itâs too short. Just when you get your groove on, itâs over. It does seem to have a different vibe than the 7 day ones.
Dislikes: Did not like the smoke at the main pool, but believe it was due to the windy conditions. Did not like the pool chair hogs, but theyâre everywhere. Seemed like playroom hours were less than expected. Super bummed that there was no solarium play area. On the last RC Bliss, (Oasis), they had the entertainment staff doing vanilla activities, âwith a twistâ. We were sad they did not have that this time.
Likes: Love Mike and Lilly. Did like the Star Lounge play room, and the Dunes one (when it was open). RC really stepped up their game alcohol wise: we never had to wait more than a minute or two for a drink. Great theme nights. Washy washy guy. How can you not love him? Open dining allows you to meet new people every night. RC ships > Celebrity ships.
Thanks for the review.
We've been on many April and Nov cruises, though its been a good number of years since we did an April one.
The April cruises tend to be a bit more party oriented less swinger oriented.
The workshops are almost always a waste of time IMO but a lot of newbies take these cruises as their literal first experiences, so they tend to be well attended.
I wonder if the orgy one was done by our friends we know there, they are quite fantastic, but when you have an open "this is how you do an orgy" thing you will get a random crowd. They also do just plain workshops which were one of the few ones we went to where we learned something actually good. Mike and Lilly
The smoking hasn't been a problem on the ships we've been on, and my wife and are hate the smell, so bad luck with that ship then. The smaller ships tend to be older and have bigger smoking areas with less places to escape, the new ships like the one next Nov are much more limited to where you can smoke.

We second this. This was our 6th Bliss and 20-somethingth over all cruise. Never smelled so much smoke in our lives.
