Anxiety at parties

Does anyone else experience increased anxiety before attending a party or social gathering? My wife enjoys “socializing” with others once the event is underway, but she struggles with anxiety leading up to the occasion. She is shy and reserved until someone else initiates. However, sometimes her anxiety gets so intense that she shuts down and cancels the event. This happens not only during LS events but also during concerts and sporting events where we have had great seats or VIP packages.
