I've been doing these Thoughtful Thursdays on our Facebook LS account (for those who might recognize me, Hiya! And please don't fuck up my anonymity) and this particular topic is something I wanted more engagement from in the Reddit-sphere.
As much as we want the LS to be all fun & games, it's not for many. If it were, it's likely that their ways of interaction are rooted in superficiality. That's just facts, not a judgment.
For people like me, the LS is about connections and experiencing people in whatever layers we're all open to given the specific dynamics. There are emotions involved bc emotions are part of the HUMAN CONDITION π₯. All of this takes COMMUNICATION and not just with our primary partners but also w/ the people we choose to befriend and form meaningly connections with.
People shy away from difficult conversations w/ others bc most of us aren't taught about HEALTHY CONFLICT RESOLUTION. They'd rather avoid and ignore things over opening up dialogue to continue working towards more promising and evolving situations for all. They're stuck in fear of potentially losing a connection or avoidant of discomfort. Effective conflict resolution imo is about using the power of self awareness, empathy, and language to form a safe space for people to discuss their grievances. Some people might be quick to call it drama but that's the misconception. If you can't do that w/ your friends (not talking about people we call friends that are actually aquaintances), then how meaningly can those friendships really be?
One of the ways in which we're commiting ourselves to evolving w/ our friendships is periodic assessments of the strength of our sexual vs. emotional connections and starting "safe space" dialogues to check in w/ one another. Most of our closest and strongest LS connections are far away so this will take some time for us to accomplish organically.
βοΈWhat are your thoughts on the matter? - If you do keep things superficial, do you accept this about yourselves? - Have you had to have difficult conversations w/ your LS friends? - If so, what were the general topics about and how did they transform your connections? - How often are you assessing your connections with others and your own needs?
